Vicky Pattison, ITV Loose Women panelist and winner of last year’s I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here, is coming to Lion Walk & Red Lion Yard in Colchester on Wednesday 27 July. Lion Walk’s WHSmith has arranged for Vicky to be in Colchester as part of her book tour, promoting her new book “The Real Me: Fashion, Fitness and Food Tips For Real Women – From Me to You”.

Fans of the Geordie celebrity have the opportunity to get a signed copy of the book and meet their idol by purchasing a wristband, in advance, from the WHSmith store. The £8.49 wristband covers the cost of your copy of “The Real Me”, which Vicky will sign on the day, and will guarantee your place in the queue.

It is expected that the event will sell out so people wishing to meet Vicky are advised to buy the wristband as soon as possible.

Vicky Pattison is said to know how to play hard but also understands the importance of working hard – in her own words “grafting hard, training right, eating well… and having a good time.” The Real Me” – Vicky’s 4th book – is a guide to living life to the full and is packed with her favourite recipes, fashion and beauty tips, training programmes and straight-talking advice on dealing with everything from job interviews to first dates. It is the ultimate guide to living life to the full, the Vicky Pattison way.

Vicky Pattison will be signing copies of her new book from 4pm in Unit 8/9 Red Lion Yard (next to Mane Creations) on Wednesday 27 July and queuing will start from 3pm. Wristbands are currently on sale in WHSmith. You will receive your book on the day. No entry to the queue without a wristband.

94-year old war veteran Roy Welland together with Colchester’s Mayor Theresa Higgins will inaugurate the Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal Shop in Red Lion Yard right in the heart of Colchester, at 2pm on Saturday 24 October. This is the fifth year that the pop-up shop has been located in Red Lion Yard and this year the organisation hopes to sell more then 14,000 poppies from the shop.

The Poppy Appeal Shop will be open daily from 9.30am to 4.00pm from Saturday to 11 November 2015. Money raised through the Poppy Appeal will go directly to the Royal British Legion’s welfare work, providing through-life care to previous and currently serving members of the British Armed Forces.

Peter Scopes Shopping Centre Manager Lion Walk Shopping Centre & Red Lion Yard said: “We are really pleased to have the Royal British Legion back at the centre. Like so many in Colchester we are always pleased to be given the opportunity to support the Royal British Legion’s work, and the poppy appeal. I have no doubt they will reach their 14,000 poppy target and hope we can all help them exceed it.”

Following the success of last year’s {Colchester Presents} Style Destination, Colchester’s own fashion event returns to town for the second year running on 29 and 30 April.

For this year’s event Lion Walk Shopping Centre & Red Lion Yard are teaming up with Cancer Research UK again to support its “Race for Life” campaign.

The centres will be adopting Cancer Research’s tribal-theme for its exciting “Fashion in a Flash” mobile catwalk shows that will take place around Lion Walk and Red Lion Yard on both days, showcasing the very latest fashions from the centre’s retailers.

The centres are on the hunt for members of the public to be models for the day. A Facebook competition to find two lucky winners will be launched on Facebook on Tuesday 5 April.

{Colchester Presents} Style Destination, Colchester’s own fashion week style event, is now in its second year. It aims to celebrate the wide range of fashion and style available in the town centre from big brand stores and independent boutiques and organised jointly by Lion Walk Shopping Centre and Culver Square. Shoppers will be able to enjoy fun and stylish events and promotions across the town centres during the two days.

WW1 Event with Culver Square

To mark the 100th anniversary of WW1 we have combined forces with Culver Square to offer a series of activities and events.

On Saturday 7 July, we are combining forces with Culver Square shopping centre to commemorate World War One (WW1) in its 100th anniversary year. With a series of events planned for the day, we hope to remind people what life was like during the war and offer activities based on experiences of wartime at home and on the front.

We will host a food ration workshop where families can learn what food was available during the war and what kind of meals people ate. A storyteller will charm children and adults alike with a series of folk tales and fables typical to the era and a juggler will add some fun to the events, entertaining the crowds whilst chatting about the times. Children can also enjoy a free craft event where they can make their own medals and airplanes to take home with them.

Over in Culver Square more exciting events will be available for children and these include a series of army recruitment activities themed; how to become fit to serve in the King’s Army, sign up to serve in the King’s Army and train in serve the King’s army.

Families will also be able to discover what life in the trenches was like with a real trench offering a fascinating insight into life on the Western Front during WWI. Finally, a poppy making activity will explore the history behind the remembrance emblem and shoppers will be able to take away an image of the poppy and the reason behind its use.

Our Centre Manager, Peter Scopes said: “Colchester has a strong military association and as a garrison town we felt it was important that we marked the centenary of WW1. We hope the planned activities will not only provide some fun for shoppers in Colchester but will also help them to understand what wartime was like, be that on the home front or the battleground.”

Dave Robertson, Centre Manager at Culver Square shopping centre added “We are really looking forward to hosting this commemorative event, that will not only be fun for the whole family but educational at same time.”

A giraffe statue commissioned as a legacy to Colchester Zoo’s 50th birthday Stand Tall For Giraffes campaign is settling into its new home at Lion Walk Shopping Centre.

The colourful two-metre tall giraffe, which has been named Zoe, was designed by Lauren Connell from St Luke’s Primary School in Tiptree.  Her creative design reflects several animal species supported by the zoo, including Amur Tigers and Leopards.

Stand Tall For Giraffe’s formed part of Colchester Zoo’s 50th birthday celebrations in 2013.  The large-scale public art event saw more than 100 giraffe sculptures sited across the county with 1.3 m high giraffes created by schools and 2.5 m giraffes painted by local artists.

The new legacy statue has been painted by Jenny Leonard, a local artist who also created the ‘Jungle Jenny’ and ‘Stan’ giraffes which were on display as part of the original Stand Tall For Giraffes campaign last year.

John Fleming, Lion Walk centre manager, said: “We were lucky enough to host one of the hugely popular giraffes in 2013 and didn’t hesitate when the zoo asked if we could find a permanent home for the legacy statue.  Our new arrival looks superb and we’re looking forward to showing her off to shoppers.”

Alex Downing, Development Director at Colchester Zoo, said: “People told us how much they missed the Stand Tall For Giraffes statues so we’re pleased to be celebrating our 51st birthday by revealing the legacy statue.  We’d like to congratulate Lauren Connell for coming up with the fantastic design and are delighted to see Zoe the giraffe proudly on display at Lion Walk!”

After the success of last years’ fashion event, the team behind {COLCHESTER PRESENTS} is bringing Style Destination, Colchester’s fashion weekend, back to the town. On Friday and Saturday, 29th and 30th April, the event will see fun, fashion-theme activities in Culver Square, Lion Walk Shopping Centre & Red Lion Yard, with a host of stylish events and promotions taking place in the town centre.

On both days, visitors to Style Destination will be able to sign up for the free event pass which will entitle them to fantastic discounts in shops across the town.  Register for a FREE Event Pass here:

As well as great value shopping, the shopping centres will be hosting fashion events, including a series of pop up fashion shows with the Lion Walk fashion army plus free beauty treatments, a spring and summer fashion showcase and the chance to be “spotted in the square” to potentially win £150 shopping spree in Culver Square.

Lion Walk Shopping Centre & Red Lion Yard are teaming up with Cancer Research UK (@CR_UK) to support its #PinkArmy #RaceforLife campaign. The #PinkArmy, which is the charity’s 2016 @RaceforLife theme, will inspire outfits, hair and make up in the fashion army events.

Culver Square centre manager, David Robertson, said: “Last years’ Style Destination was the first time that town centre stakeholders joined together to create a {COLCHESTER PRESENTS} event. Since then we have worked together to create some great campaigns and events to promote the town centre throughout the year. Colchester is a fantastic place to shop and Style Destination is a great opportunity to showcase the wonderful mix of independent and big brand retail in our town.”

Peter Scopes, Centre Manager at Lion Walk and Red Lion Yard added: “Style Destination is another landmark annual event that’s only been possible with the town centre shops working together as Colchester Presents. With on-trend fashion, cutting edge home styling and unique independent gems, you’re guaranteed to leave delighted.”

A list of events taking place throughout Style Destination can be found on the event Facebook page,
