We’re bringing The X Factor to Colchester at our Christmas light switch on!
Lion Walk Shopping Centre is getting ready for its biggest ever Christmas light switch on events this week, with a day of music and entertainment as well as a showstopping visit from The X Factor: Celebrity finalist, Megan McKenna.
Taking place this Wednesday 27 November, Megan’s attendance follows her appearance on The X Factor: Celebrity on Saturday night which saw her secure a place in the final of the TV music competition. She will join a packed line up of local performers and VIPs and will perform two songs featured in the TV hit show.
Musical entertainment will start from 12pm at the shopping centre, building the festive atmosphere and from 5pm local radio station, Dream 100, will take to the stage to kick off the fun. Following on, Colchester Institute, The Company Dance School, Theatretrain and SOUL’d Out will provide a wide range of popular family performances, as well as Colchester’s very own musical star Abbie Hartley who returns for her third successive year.
The youngsters will be delighted by appearances from Frozen characters including Anna, Elsa and Olaf, whilst there will be ample time to purchase Christmas gifts with the launch of Lion Walk’s Christmas Market. A brand new concept, the Christmas market will feature numerous stalls all offering inspired and unique gift ideas as well as a licensed bar serving everyone’s favourite Christmas tipple! And, if that wasn’t enough, late night shopping hours will also be getting underway with Lion Walk’s retailers remaining open until 9pm*
In addition to the entertainment, 93-year-old Second World War veteran, Lionel Chivers, will attend the light switch on along with Colchester’s Deputy Mayor; there will also be a blind veterans march and a very special performance from Blind Veterans UK’s very own choir, Vision in Song.
