‘Must-have’ Pastel Pieces for Spring/Summer

With that warm winter wardrobe hung up and folded away for another year, it’s time to look forward to a palette that is lighter, more comforting, and symbolic of the optimism of spring. Pastels are back, with last year’s catwalks awash with tones of tranquillity and connotations of wellness and self-care; and collections full of mint, lemon and peach looking as beautiful as they sound delicious.

Here are our top picks of the must-have pastel pieces you need in your wardrobe this season.

Orange Gingham Square Neck Midi Dress

Newlook

Dress dreamy in this orange gingham midi. This the perfect midi dress to take you from day to night, just switch out your sandals for a block heel and you’re ready for cocktail hour.

Blue Pintuck Zip Up Cropped Hoodie

Primark

We’re loving the clash of the casual and the classy, with influencers taking the humble tracksuit to new levels with monotone pastel sets paired with statement gold jewellery and sunglasses.

Pink Ombré Oversized T-Shirt

New Look

Festival season is just around the corner, so what better reason to rock the washed-out tie-dye tones with a fit that’s both comfortable and comforting.

Green long sleeve frill hem mini dress

River Island

From beaches to barbecues to beer gardens, out-out means outdoors this summer. The perfect dress fits any occasion – it’s easy to wear, and accessorises up or down wherever you’re going (or whatever the weather.)

Purple high rise skinny jeans

River Island

With summer just around the corner, it’s time to switch out those classic blue jeans for something fresh. We’ll be adding these lilac high rise skinny jeans from River Island straight into our basket.

Mint Twist Handle Crossbody Bag

Primark

Not quite ready to embrace the head to toe pastel look? Instead, opt for a pop of pastel with this mint crossbody bag from Primark.

Movement Space Dance Company
We observe the potency of Greek God Dionysus, known as “liberator”, born from rain & earth. Followers who partake in their mysteries are known to become possessed and empowered. Themes of this piece include, unity, ecstasy, wild frenzy, community rituals, festival & wine. Join MOVEMENT SPACE tumbling into a Utopia, where an eclectic fusion of dance styles, coupled with storytelling presents a battle of desire, loss and highlights the strength of humanity. Music styles include drum & base, tribal, folk & pop. Expect a vivid show rich in skill and truth.

MOVEMENT SPACE Dance Company’s second piece sends us to a futuristic era. Tangled in the vines of mass-extinction, like a phoenix we watch performers rise from the ashes. Triumphantly basking in a new age where humanity has established harmony with Mother Earth. They dance till dawn. Music styles include house and pop-culture.
Bird Rave
Bird Rave brings together live artists Miss High Leg Kick, Abi Cunliffe, Steve Nice, Luciana Hutt and Reggie Roberts for a “dancefloor ornithology” performance inspired by our changing relationship with nature (and each other) in lockdown.

Bird Rave is also a celebration of rave music and the “freedom to dance” days of early rave, self-expression and group unity through dance. The raving birds you might see include Hooded Crow, Hummingbird, European Nightjar, Blue-backed Manakin, Arctic Tern, Andean Cock-of-the-rock, Tufted Titmouse and Penduline Tit. Plumages by Darren Evans.

Local and Community History Month

There’s so much happening at Lion Walk and throughout Colchester to look forward to, it’s sometimes easy to forget what has come before. There are so many layers of history that makeup what the town is today, and generations of stories, anecdotes and artefacts waiting to be rediscovered.

This local and community history month we’re taking a dive into the past and visiting some of Colchester’s most interesting historical landmarks!

Jumbo

The iconic old water tower has long been one of the most visual landmarks in Colchester, with its copper pyramid roof dominating the town’s skyline since 1883. Its nickname comes from London Zoo’s Jumbo the elephant, and its tank can hold over 230,000 gallons of water.

Balkerne Gate

Built-in the first century, the Balkerne Gate is the largest surviving Roman gateway in Britain. The Grade I listed building forms part of the old wall of Camulodunum – the Roman settlement that would eventually become Colchester. This was also once the site of a triumphal arch, built to honour Emperor Claudius, and its endurance remains a cause of celebration to this day!

Colchester Castle

The history doesn’t come much more layered than Colchester Castle, which was built during Roman times upon the foundations of the Temple of Claudius. One of England’s most important heritage sites, the Castle was founded by Henry I and has witnessed much conflict – from the First Baron’s War in medieval times, to a siege in the time of the English Civil War. Today it pays tribute to this rich history with exhibits and archaeological collections spanning over 2,500 years.

Where will you explore next?

Lockdown Update

With Colchester now facing tighter government restrictions, all non-essential shops at Lion Walk and Red Lion Yard will now be closed. All our essential shops remain open and you can still grab takeaway food and drinks. The Winter Garden will also be closed. Please check online for any updates, and with individual retailers for last-minute changes in opening times.

We’re encouraging everyone to stay home and help stop the spread, and we’ll be doing everything we can to make sure we can reopen again safely and as soon as possible. We also want to support and help those whose Christmas plans have been affected by the changing restrictions, so we’ll be sharing links and resources raising awareness and giving back to those who find themselves isolated or in need – with contributions from our customers most welcome. Stay safe, and see you soon.

Men’s Summer Fashion

Here’s hoping for a heatwave! Whether it’s time for a festival-ready bucket hat, or it’s just raining buckets, British summer is on its way and everyone has something to celebrate. From the beach to the bar, from The Secret Garden to the Summer Drinks Terrace, this season is all about versatility and getting the most out of a capsule wardrobe. We’ve selected a few key pieces that will stand out whatever the occasion, and whatever the weather.

Mental Health Awareness Week 2021

Meet Mid and North East Essex Mind during Mental Health Awareness Week

Mental Health Awareness Week is an annual event, this year taking place from 10th – 16th May, and aims to raise awareness of mental health problems and services that are available to support people.

Mid and North East Essex Mind are the local mental health charity and staff from the charity will be visiting various town and shopping centres during the week engaging with the public, providing tips for good mental wellbeing and raising awareness.

Julie Arthur, Marketing and Fundraising Manager said “Mental Health Awareness Week is our opportunity to promote good mental wellbeing and given that we have all suffered a year unlike any other due to the pandemic, it is even more important for us to focus on our own mental wellbeing as well as that of those around us.  Raising awareness and starting conversations about mental health will almost certainly help someone to reach out for help.”

This year the focus is nature and so why not get out in the fresh air and come to meet the Mid and North East Essex Team who will be at the following locations between 10am and 3pm.

Monday 10th May at Maldon Prom, supported by Moat Foundation

Tuesday 11th May at Chelmsford, High Street with a special visit from Cllr Jude Deakin, Mayor of Chelmsford

Wednesday 12th May at Colchester, Lion Walk Shopping Centre supported by Liz Kirwan, ‘thisfitMum’

Thursday 13th May we will be at Braintree Village
