CELEBRATE THE OLYMPIC SPIRIT AT LION WALK & RED LION YARD

Colchester’s Lion Walk Shopping Centre and Red Lion Yard are inviting shoppers to join them in celebrating the 2016 Olympics and Paralympics.

Three brightly coloured, Olympic information towers are now on display in the centre. Each tower represents one word of the Olympic motto, FASTER-HIGHER-STRONGER and provides visitors with the opportunity to learn more about corresponding Olympic and Paralympic records, fun facts, plus the not-to-be-missed opportunity to win £100 to spend at the Lion Walk and Red Lion Yard store(s) of your choice.

Do you know what the world’s strongest insect is or how many humans an elephant could lift? Who is the fastest sprinter of all time and would he beat a lion, a coyote or a zebra in a race? What’s the highest recorded high jump and how does that compare to a flea, a grasshopper or a horse?

Find out the answers to these and many more on our FASTER-HIGHER-STRONGER Olympic towers. Plus, Culver Walk will be showcasing a fascinating display illustrating the various sizes of all the different balls used in Olympic Sports.

There is also the opportunity to put your strength to the test and attempt to lift the weight of the men’s Olympic shot put, which, at 16 pounds, is the equivalent of 16 footballs or 48 bananas!

You’ll be amazed by some of our incredible Olympic fun facts and have the opportunity to enter our competition. You can even enter there and then using our free wifi!

Shoppers are invited to find the four Gold Winning Words, one on each tower and one on the Olympic Ball display in Culver Walk and enter the Lion Walk Olympic competition to be in with a chance of winning £100 to spend at the Lion Walk & Red Lion Yard store or stores of their choice.

Once you’ve found the four Gold Winning Words you will need to complete the entry form on the Lion Walk website which can be found under the What’s On tab.

These Olympic installations follow the unveiling of the local schools Olympic artwork in the centre last month (July 2016). Four local schools, Kingswode Hoe, St John’s Green, Lexden Springs and St Thomas More’s created wonderful pieces of artwork to celebrate the Olympics and what the Games mean to them. Their creations are currently on display as bunting in Red Lion Yard and window vinyls on Trinity Square.

All the Olympic displays will remain in place throughout the Olympics and Paralympics, with the competition closing on the same day, Sunday 18 September at 5pm.

Centre Works

We’re having some work done on the grill on the crossroads between TopShop, WHSmith, the iStore and Vison Express. We know the barriers mean the walkway offers limited space and we do apologise for the inconvenience. Please be assured that everything will be back to normal very soon.  If you have any queries or problems, please call 01206 564957; we’re happy to help.

FASHION EDITOR BRINGS ELEGANT SHOPPING EXPERIENCE TO RED LION YARD

The Fashion Editor, a new boutique offering the latest fashion and accessories for women of all ages, has opened in the historic Red Lion Yard in the heart of Colchester. The shop offers an elegant shopping experience, and stocks clothes, bags and jewellery for sophisticated women looking for reasonably priced fashion. Brands include Y.A.S, Jovonna and Ichi, amongst others.

The 336 sq ft boutique’s interior is minimalistic, with a white décor and chrome details throughout, but still offers a luxuriously warm welcoming atmosphere.

Fashion Editor is founded and owned by Jennifer Lock, a former fashion journalist with over 15 years of experience writing for the UK’s biggest fashion magazines. She regularly appeared on GMTV and radio to discuss women’s style issues. With her in-depth understanding of the industry, Lock felt compelled to set up her own business.

Lock choose Red Lion Yard for her first store, but is planning to open an additional five within a ten year period in the South East, North Essex and Cambridgeshire.

Commenting on the store, Lock said: “I’m excited about opening my first store here in Colchester. After having spent my whole career in London, leading a hectic city life, setting up a business in Colchester felt completely right. The town has all the vital ingredients for setting up a business, it’s vibrant and dynamic but idyllic at the same time and Red Lion Yard’s boutique feel made it perfect for the Fashion Editor.”

WATCH THIS SPACE: STYLE DESTINATION RETURNS TO LION WALK & RED LION YARD

Following the success of last year’s {Colchester Presents} Style Destination, Colchester’s own fashion event returns to town for the second year running on 29 and 30 April.

For this year’s event Lion Walk Shopping Centre & Red Lion Yard are teaming up with Cancer Research UK again to support its “Race for Life” campaign.

The centres will be adopting Cancer Research’s tribal-theme for its exciting “Fashion in a Flash” mobile catwalk shows that will take place around Lion Walk and Red Lion Yard on both days, showcasing the very latest fashions from the centre’s retailers.

The centres are on the hunt for members of the public to be models for the day. A Facebook competition to find two lucky winners will be launched on Facebook on Tuesday 5 April.

{Colchester Presents} Style Destination, Colchester’s own fashion week style event, is now in its second year. It aims to celebrate the wide range of fashion and style available in the town centre from big brand stores and independent boutiques and organised jointly by Lion Walk Shopping Centre and Culver Square. Shoppers will be able to enjoy fun and stylish events and promotions across the town centres during the two days.

More details about the two-day fashion event are coming soon on What’s On at www.lionwalkshopping.com and on www.facebook.com/lionwalkshoppingcentre
