Magical Mini Wonderland Launches In Lion Walk

Whatever the weather, it’s going to be a white Christmas this year in Colchester! Because we are bringing a magical, snowy experience to shoppers with the launch of a fun-filled Snow Garden.

The mini wonderland will be open to the public on specific days in November and December, starting from Wednesday 29 November at 11am. Entrance is entirely free.

Everyone is invited to join in the fun of the festive season, with the chance to throw snowballs and frolic in the frost-filled fantasia, but that’s not all. Father Christmas will be there too, entertaining everyone with fantastic magic tricks and illusions. The Snow Garden will be decked with twinkling fairy lights and children will have the opportunity to decorate snowmen with all kinds of scarves, hats, and other items, as well as playing in the delightful gingerbread house.

Peter Scopes, our centre manager said: “The Snow Garden will give shoppers the opportunity to enjoy some genuine festive fun – it’s going to be really special and we can’t wait for everyone to take part.”

The Snow Garden opens on Wednesday 29 November at 11am, closing at 4pm, and then will be open on certain weekends in December:

Saturday 9, Sunday 10 December
Saturday 16, Sunday 17 December
Saturday 23, Sunday 24 December

As an extra special treat, on Saturday 16 there will also be a free craft activity for children who want to make their very own ‘Santa Stop Here’ signs.

The Snow Garden will be located at Unit 85 next to Primark and opposite Game.

Our Lights Switch On Will Be A Night To Remember

There will be not one, not two, but three singing sensations at our official Christmas Lights Switch On ceremony, as well as an amazing fireworks display and the town’s very own Deputy Mayor.

The festivities kick off at 5:30pm on Wednesday 29 November, when Cllr Peter Chillingworth will take to the stage with the Children’s choir of Brinkley Primary School, performers from local stage school Theatre Train and Colchester’s very own musical celebrity, Abbie Hartley.

What’s more Father Christmas will be there, performing magic tricks, ably assisted by his very own juggling elf, and Dream 100 FM will also be on hand to help with the fun. With special late night shopping and mulled wine and mulled cider available for shoppers, it promises to be an unmissable event.

The lights will be switched on at 7pm, followed by the fireworks display.

Peter Scopes, our centre manager said: “We are all so excited for this, as it promises to be the best ever Christmas lights switch on, with a truly special, party atmosphere. The town has really come together for this; we are so proud to host so many singers and performers at what is really the most wonderful time of the year. Truly, there will be something for everyone and we are asking the whole of Colchester to come along and show their support. And for one night at least, thanks to our amazing snow machine, it really will be a white Christmas!”
