Visit Colchester Museums this half term!
Get your creative juices flowing with the twisted history of Colchester in cartoon, enjoy a feast for the ears with tales of Roman Food or prepare your very own shell-fishy hand puppet to take home!

It wasn’t just oyster and grapes, the Romans enjoyed a wide range of food, including some delicacies they introduced to Britain upon their arrival. Meet the Roman lady and hear more about what you would find on Marcus’ menu.

Oysters are to Colchester what mint cake is to Kendall. Known the world over, these shell fish have a famous connection to our coastline. Working with an artist, you can now make your own fun oyster hand puppet out of craft materials.

Want to create a new take on Colchester’s long and potted history? In 1900 William Gurney-Benham, former Mayor and publisher, created a cartoon history, including the alternate Oyster Feast where oysters ate the councillors! Now it’s your turn to get creative and create your cartoon version of Colchester, past, present or future.
